Black Death Catacombs Standing at the Eastham lifestone, I overheard a group of adventurers planning a trip to an exciting cavern which I had not heard of. I agreed to go with them and soon found myself deep in the Black Death Catacombs. Imagine my surprise to come face to face with the Olthoi that dwell there. It was quite a massacre; most of our party died and at one point I found myself running in circles away from an Olthoi Noble who took an obsessive fancy to me. It was time to call an all-out retreat so someone opened a portal. I thought it was to Eastham, but no such luck. We wound up near Teth deep in the direlands. As I was running from several ash gromnies, I accidentally stepped through a strange portal that took me to the top of a steep hill dominated by an ominous lighthouse. There was no portal down and escape down the steep cliffs was impossible. My only hope was to navigate the lighthouse and somehow make it through to the end where a blessed portal awaited to take me back to Teth. With great trepidation, I ventured forth - going ever downwards, dodging high tumeroks and other dread beasts. With my last few drops of blood I plunged through the portal back to Teth and relative safety. Stonehold Traveling northwest from Holtburg, my destination was the desolate town of Stonehold. Accompanied by Honored Seeker Pirzart, we ran through hostile territory and unforgiving mountains. Golden and Crimsonback Tuskers were determined to thwart us, so we stopped to challenge a few of them. Alas, poor Pirzart was mercilessly slain by a tusker, which I managed to finish off by the time he made it back to his corpse. On the way, we found the most beautiful place - the Mountain Retreat. Tucked away in the snowy wilderness of northwest Dereth, the view was breathtaking. Stonehold, inhabited mostly by cows, was surrounded by rolling sandy hills. After a brief rest, we decided to press on to Plateau City. Plateau City After our adventures in Stonehold, we decided to make our way southwest to the fabled Plateau City. Impenetrable mountains blocked any easy route and bloodthirsty beasts chased us the entire way, casting horrible spells and stabbing us in the back. The beauty of the landscape however made for a more bearable trip. Towering hills, lush forests and white-capped mountains surrounded us, yet hid lurking dangers amongst their cover. After about an hour of trying to figure out how to make it across the obstacles, we finally found it. Perched atop a mountain plateau, it was surrounded by deep pits and any misstep would have meant certain death. The town itself was small yet beautiful. A trophy smith created a golem jo and a spine axe for me, crafted from a golem heart and a shore spine I had been carrying. I bought rare spices, oregano, hot peppers and cinnamon. I met Mairisa bint Fuda who told me of the lost City of Frore. She warned that only massive parties could possibly survive and death there meant no return. Perhaps that can be an adventure for another day... Kara After our adventures in Plateau City, the remote town of Kara was next. We decided to run to Zaikhal from there and it turned out to be a bit more difficult than we anticipated. High mountains barred our path and it was a long trip all told. Once we arrived in Zaikhal, we portalled to Qalaba'r and decided to run from there to Kara. Traveling along peaceful lakes, hostile mountains, and dodging nasty creatures, we finally arrived in one piece. Kara is a very isolated town surrounded by gray hills and white mountains. Bronze dillos and mattekar of all sizes dwell around the outskirts. I met an interesting person named Koja Hideki who told me of flashing gems. He promised that he could turn such gems into strong Koujia armor, which he said was the most beautiful armor to be seen. I had never heard of flashing gems and I look forward to the day when I can avail myself of his services. After a day of fighting dillos and mattekar I decided to leave the peaceful town of Kara, but I'm certain I'll be back. Bandit Castle Twas a long convoluted journey to this isolated place, but we started in Neydisa on our quest for Atlan weapons. When everyone had achieved their tasks, I decided to try and make it out of the dangerous crater and over the mountains alone. Dodging Flares and Flammas, I found myself atop an evil white mountain from which there seemed to be no escape. I tried in vain for what seemed like hours to find a way down, or at least back the way I came and finally lucked upon an obscure path towards the valley. The looming mountains made my planned trek east to bandit castle impossible. I was about to give up hope when I chanced upon a river. Following the river, I wound up in Holtburg, having to stop many times on the way to heal the tusker and shadow wounds. From there I headed northeast towards my first lifestone stop, Ghosttown. This town lived up to its name - not a soul in sight and no refuge from the deluge of banderlings that had taken up residence there. I only stayed a moment then headed northeast to bandit castle, running from every variety of tusker and mite who all took immediate offense to my intrusion into their solitude. The castle itself was an interesting place. I met Karwin the Lunatic who asked for carrot soup in exchange for information about some ominous caves to the north. Alas I had none so that tale will remain untold for now. The entire structure was arranged in a dome shape, with shopkeepers aloft in a central chamber with connecting passageways to the battlements. The decor was spartan, with more attention to function than form, and ever so quiet. A peaceful place for certain. A brief respite from the hordes of creatures outside the gates. Now, how do I get home? ... Ah yes, I think I remember a portal back at the Ghost Town. Hopefully it will lead me back somewhere safe. - Glenilda
